Easy Masala Puri | Bengaluru Style Masala Puri | Indian Snack

The dish that was originally created in Bangalore, Karnataka takes me down the memory lane of my hometown. This #streetfood is served hot with loads of hot ragda masala on crispy puri garnished with chopped onions, tomatoes, sev, cilantro, tangy tamarind sauce and spicy green mint coriander chutney. 😋


Ingredients


For Masala

  • 3 cups dry green peas

  • 1 chopped tomato

  • 1 green chilli pepper

  • ½ inch ginger

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • ½ tsp cumin powder

  • ½ tsp chaat masala

  • 4 pepper corns

  • 4 cloves

  • 1 inch cinnamon stick

  • ½ cup coriander leaves

  • ½ cup mint leaves

  • 1 tsp salt

For putting the chaat together

  • Puri (used for pani puri/golgappa/puchkas)

  • Prepared Masala (as in video)

  • Chopped onions

  • Chopped tomatoes

  • Chopped coriander leaves

  • Green mint coriander chutney

  • Sweet tamarind chutney

  • Sev


Instructions



Masala for masala puri

  • Heat 2 tsp oil.

  • Add 1 bay leaf

  • Add 1 inch cinnamon stick

  • Add 4 pepper corn

  • Add 4 cloves

  • Add 1 green chilli chopped

  • Add ½ inch ginger chopped

  • Add 1 chopped tomato.

  • Fry until tomatoes become mushy.

Let it cool.


Transfer to a blender. Add ½ cup coriander leaves, ½ cup mint leaves, ½ cup water and blend this into a fine paste.

  • Take a pan, add 2 tbsp oil and let it warm up.

  • Add 1 tsp chaat masala, 1 tsp roasted cumin powder.

  • Add the ground paste. Let it boil.

  • Now, add the boiled peas and potatoes.

  • Mash the potatoes and some peas. Add 1 cup water.

  • Add 1 tsp salt to taste.

  • Bring it to boil.

Add more chaat masala and cumin/jeera powder if you like.


Putting the chaat together

  • Slightly crush 8 puris.

  • Add 4 ladles of hot masala

  • Add 1 tbsp green chutney

  • 1 tbsp sweet tamarind chutney

  • Some chopped onions

  • Chopped tomatoes

  • Chopped coriander leaves

  • Top it off with sev

Masala Puri with a glass of cold watermelon juice goes really well!
